The flight destination you will be looking for is 'Apia, Samoa'. You will arrive at Faleolo International Airport on the main island of Upolu, located 40 kilometres west of Apia, the capital of Samoa.
Your accommodation may offer airport transfers, so check with them first. Alternatively, there will be plenty of Taxis on hand at the airport. A fare from Faleolo International Airport to Apia should cost SAT$60-70 - payable in cash (tala).
If you would like to hire a vehicle, there are various rental options, including cars, 4WDs, and vans (up to 16 seats). A temporary driver’s license is required and can be obtained from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) or the Samoa Tourism Information Fale for SAT$21/month. If renting from Faleolo International Airport, note a cash-only SAT$5 fee to exit the car park.
Samoans drive on the left-hand side of the road at 40km/h in towns and villages and 56km/h on the open road. Car rental companies can be found here.
Samoa’s currency is tala. While resorts often accept cards, many businesses, including taxis, operate on a cash-only basis, so carrying cash is important. Tipping isn’t customary or expected. It’s a good idea to bring some tala, but major foreign currencies can be exchanged at Faleolo International Airport or in other locations in Apia. There are also many ATMs throughout Samoa, but generally only in urban areas.
It is always recommended that international travellers purchase a comprehensive travel insurance package from a reputable company that covers any activities they are planning to undertake.
